All hail American Idol! The journey is ON once again for superstar hopefuls….

Now on its 6th season…

Truly American Idol has gone a long way from its semi-chaotic beginnings. It was a spin off from the British POP IDOL. At the time of conceptualization, most of the TV bigwigs didn’t quite believe in the potential of the show, they thought that America will not accept such kind of show. In short, American Idol “almost” didn’t make it to the airwaves.

With the advent of reality shows, the creators and producers ( Simon Fuller, Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick) didn’t see any reason to not give this show a chance.

True enough, the first season in year 2002 was accepted by America with open arms. As a whole, it was refreshing– Thousands of auditioners from different states wished for the title, 3 judges trying to sift the good singers from the bad ones.—The format was something US TV has not seen, and the response was awesome. Part of its appeal was the fact that it welcomed, not just Americans, but all kinds of races. BIG BIG PLUS.

The pointblank targeted spars by judge Simon Cowell towards the auditioners who didn’t impress him much has become America’s biggest guilty pleasure (c’mon, admit it, you know it’s true). The presence of Paula Abdul has proven to be significant, she’d give the lighter remarks during the audition, she was considered as the darling of the show. Besides, it was the best comeback any has-been pop star can dream of. Randy Jackson was the balancing factor among the 3 judges. He was all “Dawg! Dude! Props to you, man!”, totally bringing the street lingo to the show and it made the show more closer to the hearts of viewers. And oh! Ryan Seacrest, that cute host is such a  babe-magnet!

After 5 seasons, there’s still no stopping AI, and for sure it’s gonna be around for a long long time. It has made the lives of some of the most ordinary people into something really big. Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks were just typical citizens of America who are now earning millions in the music industry. Even the runners up have been rubbed with success (Bo Bice, Kelly Pickler, Elliot Yamin, Chris Daughtry, Katharine McPhee, among others). This show is simply indescribably powerful.

Whether we like it or not, the reality show American Idol has tremendously contributed and has proven its worth in the music industry. It’s definitely here to stay.
